2009: Revisiting the eClinical Paradigm - Investigational Site Perspectives on Clinical Trial Information Systems, DIA Nice Oct09

As the healthcare and pharmaceutical technology spheres move closer together at the clinical research interface, the eClinical paradigm needs to be revisited in order to leverage emerging political, cultural, procedural and technological opportunities. Understanding investigational site experiences with today’s clinical trial technologies and their perspectives on future requirements is critical to delivery of improved eClinical solutions. The eClinical Forum has recently conducted an in depth, global survey of investigational site experiences with clinical trial technologies and their future expectations. The 2009 survey allows a comparison with results from a survey performed in 2001 with 840 investigational sites. This comparison provides us with a unique opportunity to extrapolate future trends. Summary data is presented on …

  • Technologies available at the site and how they are used
  • Site experience with EDC and the scale of redundant data entry
  • Clinical trial system features that add value and the current level of site satisfaction
  • The perceived impact of clinical trial systems on site performance
  • Future eClinical needs and expectations

The results of these surveys form an important input to our understanding of global site perspectives on the current clinical trial information systems and their future needs and expectations. Such information will help the industry develop future eClinical solutions that transcend the healthcare:research divide and deliver improved performance and value.
